In November 2005, Rising Sun Performance Company opened Hellcab by Will Kern at UNDER St.
Marks’s Theater. They were astounded by their victory of 13 weeks of a sold-out
house with favorable reviews. This November, we embark again into the life of a
cabbie and the slew of fascinating people of Chicago we meet during his 12-hour
shift.
The purpose of documenting this production is to understand
and appreciate the evolution of this project. Since this is the second time
RSPC is producing this play, there are new discoveries and hardships to endure,
along with the addition of social media promotion and chronicling. It is also important to remember this: No
matter what medium, remembering where one started is as crucial to an artist as
the sand is to the beach. Lines will be dropped, cues will be missed, designs
will be redrawn, but within those moments, that is when we realize that we are
capable of anything.
The world of a Yellow Cab is in our hands; step in, and be
sure you can pay the fare.
